Biotechnology is a multidisciplinary endeavour involving many fields of study including biology, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, chemistry, and chemical process engineering. During the first year you will develop a sound basic understanding of the foundation subjects for biotechnology and molecular biology, such as biology, chemistry, cell biology, physiology and genetics.In subsequent years, you will further enhance your understanding of biochemistry, cytology, immunology and genetics, and then progress to studying the industrial application of this knowledge in specific biotechnology modules. You will study from a wide range of topics such as microbiology, molecular biology, recombinant DNA technology, animal and plant biotechnology and microbial biotechnology. You may also choose to study the ethical aspects of biotechnology in the Man and Environment module or the commercial aspects of Biotechnology in the Entrepreneurs and Small Businesses module.
